How to Care For Wooden Kitchen Utensils

Have you ever thought about caring for your cutting board and wooden kitchen utensils or do you just throw them away once they've seen better days? I have to profess I use to fling them in the bin, that it until I came across INGREDIENTS LDN journal, which is full of advice on slower living and a thoughtful apporach to homemaking.

ILDN, is a boutique interior and lifestyle store, that like Coco Lane celebrates a slower pace of living. Today I am thrilled to share their advise on caring for your wooden kitchen utensils and cutting board.

How to care for... is one of several articles in our Journal that highlight how to care for the items within your homes. So much of what ILDN is about has to do with investing in timeless, quality homewares and dedicating time to caring for them properly in order to ensure they last for a long time.  In today's world, it is often more cost-effective to replace something than to repair it, but this way of living has a huge cost to our planet.

Caring for the objects we use not only prolongs their lifespan but also highlights their value above and beyond just their price tag. I think relating to what we own in this way vs seeing everything as disposable, makes us more likely to try to find ways to repair and reuse what we can. Prior to learning about cutting board oil, it hadn't crossed my mind that the wooden items I own need to be cared for by being regularly oiled.

It makes perfect sense to me now that my attention has been drawn to it. Oiling wood makes such a big difference to its durability and ability to withstand the strains of daily use. It is a very simple process that only takes a few minutes but has such a big impact on prolonging the lifespan of the wooden items within our homes while at the same time serving to reinforce their value to us.

My background is as a wedding & lifestyle photographer, shooting both digital and film to create authentic, soft and natural fine art photographs. Working primarily with natural light to give my work a beautiful, light and airy touch infused with soft tones.

I have always appreciated and valued the simple things in life and finding the interesting in the ordinary.  Coco Lane was founded as I wanted to create something that is about an experience, the slower pace of life, cosiness and candlelight, cuddling up on the sofa with loved ones, being with the people you love, sharing food with close friends, a feeling of home, nurturing a chosen career, wanderlust travels, savouring the small moments in everyday life and just being you and enjoying a cup of tea.

I'm excited to bring you stories that promote all those moments in life that give us value and meaning; inspiring  us to live beautifully.

"I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life.  If you are interested in something, no matter what it is. Go at it full speed.  Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it.  Lukewarm is no good" - Roald Dahl
