Oh have we got a treat for you today, and I quite literally mean a treat! We are thrilled to be sharing a wonderful interview with cake maker and designer, T Bake, who create cakes evocative of memories that celebrate tradition with elegance and if the way they look is anything to go by, I'm sure they taste exquisite!
Tell us about your business:
T Bakes is a creative pastry atelier. We create bespoke cakes and cookies combining a refined aesthetic with a seasonal menu. All of our cakes are handmade, honouring both the ingredients and the craftsmanship.
What is your workflow process?:
It all starts with a design consultation with the clients, where we get to know them and their expectations for the event. This conversation is crucial to our process and can go from discussing specific florals and colours to more nuanced emotions, such as what feelings they wish their guests to experience upon walking into the reception.
At this moment they also get to taste our cakes which is absolutely essential, as the cake itself is the single most important aspect, regardless of design!
From there we create an individually tailored design project that is presented for the client’s approval and worked on until we reach the final design. For me, the act of putting pen to paper, to sketch a wedding cake is vital.
What kind of clients do you work with?:
Most of our clients search for a very specific aesthetic allied to a high quality product. They are well travelled and cultured people. Most are demanding but also extremely kind. I believe that the fact that they are more mature and have a very strong visual identity is why our brand resonates so much with them!
Where do you find inspiration?:
I draw a lot of inspiration from architecture. The most iconic examples are the Portuguese tiles which are a signature of the T Bakes atelier! I am constantly inspired by this beautiful ancient city and all of its treasures.
I also try to listen to the client as much as possible, as often times they provide me with more clues and inspiration than what they are even aware! To figure how to convey a feeling through a cake design is one the most exciting challenges and it can be done in many different ways with the use of flavour, texture, colours, etc.
What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months?:
I am not one to make new year’s resolutions! I find that whenever I have a specific plan life always shows me a different path. I am not goal oriented in that way. I am extremely organised and work with schedules and timings everyday, yet each different project is its own endeavour!
I am lucky to have a lot of exciting projects lined up for this year and I make note to be thankful for this amazing job every single day!
My background is as a wedding & lifestyle photographer, shooting both digital and film to create authentic, soft and natural fine art photographs. Working primarily with natural light to give my work a beautiful, light and airy touch infused with soft tones.
I have always appreciated and valued the simple things in life and finding the interesting in the ordinary. Coco Lane was founded as I wanted to create something that is about an experience, the slower pace of life, cosiness and candlelight, cuddling up on the sofa with loved ones, being with the people you love, sharing food with close friends, a feeling of home, nurturing a chosen career, wanderlust travels, savouring the small moments in everyday life and just being you and enjoying a cup of tea.
I'm excited to bring you stories that promote all those moments in life that give us value and meaning; inspiring us to live beautifully.
"I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is. Go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good" - Roald Dahl
