I think it’s fair to say that we all feel the pain from time to time when it comes to comparing ourselves with other industry suppliers on social media, especially when those bookings are not forthcoming. Kate Cullen noticed this and so decided she would run a workshop to give suppliers the tools needed to be successful when trying to connect with potential clients.
From Kate: Working in the wedding industry can at times be tough and overwhelming. Comparison with our peers is often one of the most difficult aspects - we see everyone's achievements burning brightly on our Instagram feeds, in our Pinterest boards and on the blogs we'd love to be featured in. It can be difficult to take that first step towards creating our own independent identity, that authentically represents us, our hopes and desires for our business, and that reaches the clients we want to work with. Fear of ridicule, or not getting noticed at all. Fear of standing out as something different, not following the established norms. Fear of even just taking that first step sometimes.
And so my Curated by Heart workshop was born. I felt the need to teach people a different way. One that doesn't rely on building Pinterest boards of other people's work, but rather that reaches inside ourselves for our stories, and in doing so connects with our potential clients on a deeper, more meaningful level. I feel doing this work first, before jumping into a styled shoot (be it as an organiser or simply as a participant), is absolutely vital, so that you don't waste time, money and passion in the process.
I'll be honest, I could see on the faces of my workshop guests when we embarked on the first few exercises that we were way out of their comfort zones! But soon they started to embrace the process and I could see their imaginations sparking into life. We looked at so many aspects of their brands, delving deep into their thought processes, hopes and desires for their business, and their own creative journeys. Creating physical moodboards based on a series of tools and techniques that I use myself they each created unique and beautiful colour palettes, ambience, and most importantly, effective storytelling.
I'm eager to see the results of their hard work over the next few weeks as they bring their ideas to fruition in the real world, and I'm thrilled that our little Curated by Heart community will continue to help and support each other in times to come. I can't wait to bring the process to more people in 2019! My background is as a wedding & lifestyle photographer, shooting both digital and film to create authentic, soft and natural fine art photographs. Working primarily with natural light to give my work a beautiful, light and airy touch infused with soft tones.
I have always appreciated and valued the simple things in life and finding the interesting in the ordinary. Coco Lane was founded as I wanted to create something that is about an experience, the slower pace of life, cosiness and candlelight, cuddling up on the sofa with loved ones, being with the people you love, sharing food with close friends, a feeling of home, nurturing a chosen career, wanderlust travels, savouring the small moments in everyday life and just being you and enjoying a cup of tea.
I'm excited to bring you stories that promote all those moments in life that give us value and meaning; inspiring us to live beautifully.
"I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is. Go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good" - Roald Dahl
